Sword Bellydance

Ready for ATS® sword dialect? You asked for it, you got it! Your sword game is only as strong as the underlying ATS® sword foundation you build it on. This workshop series will help you learn and reinforce your ATS® sword foundation and prep you to learn Damiana’s ATS sword dialect. We will will begin with in-depth technique on sword handling as well as the core movements to correct, strengthen, and improve your core ATS sword movements followed by Damiana’s sword dialect utilizing these movements in fun and dynamic duets and beyond. This workshop series is suitable for ATS® dancers of all levels. While each class can be taken separately, we strongly recommend taking the series together as each class builds on information presented in the prior classes. Not ready for sword? No problem? Come learn the proper technique behind each movement until you’re ready to balance and handle a sword! Come delve deeper into your love of ATS!

Your sword game is only as sharp as the foundation that its built on. In this four-hour mini-intensive, you will reinforce your core ATS® sword technique in preparation for learning some of Damiana Dance Company’s brand new ATS sword dialect. The first two-hour workshop will begin with in-depth technique on sword handling and core movements to correct, strengthen, and improve your foundational ATS sword vocabulary. You will then utilize these movements in a two-hour workshop introducing Damiana’s ATS sword dialect for fun and dynamic duets and beyond. Please bring your own sword; swords will not be provided. Jen recommends the longer hawskbill-style scimitars, but shorter swords of the same style will also work. To ensure the best experience for participants, workshops are limited to 20 people.

Prerequisites: This mini-intensive is suitable for ATS® dancers of all levels. Proficiency in ATS Levels 1 and 2 (DVD Volumes 1-4) is recommended but not required. Although each workshop can be taken separately, we strongly advise taking both because the workshops are cumulative and there will be minimal review. For those wishing to take only the Advanced Technique workshop, a strong working knowledge of advanced ATS movements (Level 3 and above) and the existing ATS sword vocabulary are necessary.
